Sleep Like a Baby

As my head sinks into the pillow I look forward to getting some sleep before the big project review meeting tomorrow morning, when my PDA signals an alert. Maybe I can ignore it. No, I have to check it out. The CRM system is down, so why am I being alerted - that's George's responsibility? Oh no, he's across the country at that conference and I'm the backup!

I link into Entire using my PDA while still in bed. Sometimes you get lucky. The failure is in an archive process, so we won't have to work overnight. I tell Entire to email the information on the failure to our vendor rep and post a low-level alert that Entire links to the dashboards of all the appropriate IT and customer personnel. Boy, I would have been up for two hours getting this under control before we installed Entire. Now I just set down the PDA pull up the covers and get a great night's rest!

Many companies are furious about the bug-ridden, pricey and over-engineered systems that they bought during the bubble era and are doing their best to switch to simple, off-the-shelf software, offered in "enterprise-resource planning" packages and the like.
