Robert M. Rubin is president of Valley Management Consultants, a firm specializing in IT strategy and organizational design. Prior to joining VMC, he was senior vice president and CIO for Elf Atochem North America, a $2 billion diversified chemical company.
Mr. Rubin has been a frequent speaker at industry conferences and universities, including MIT Sloan, Wharton, and the United States Naval Postgraduate School. He is a frequent contributor to both Optimize and InformationWeek, and has had articles published in other industry journals.
He was featured on the cover of Datamation as part of its Does Re Engineering Really Work? report. CIO profiled him in an essay on five leading U.S. chief information officers. In March 2000, Computerworld named Mr. Rubin one of its Premier 100 IT Leaders, "an award that recognizes the most innovative, outstanding executives in information technology."
Under his leadership, Atochem in 1996 received a Computerworld-Smithsonian Innovation Award. The following year, PC Week chose the company as one of its top 500 Information Technology Innovators, ranking it 15th, and CIO honored the company in its CIO-100 for information systems innovation and practices.
