Morning Assessment

While eating breakfast, I pull up my personalized Entire dashboard on my PDA, "OK, are there any issues I need to address this morning, or maybe I got lucky and things are running relatively smoothly." Not that I'm holding my breath on that, but the occasional day where I get to actually follow my schedule is much appreciated. First I'll check the Entire standard alerts. Well, the HR server went down, but was fixed in 20 minutes. I don't think that caused any problems for anyone at 2:30 AM, and, thankfully, there aren't any other operational alerts.

What's happening with my hot items - the CRM upgrade and the VPN with our biggest customer? No alerts on the VPN, so it's going good for now. Damn, another compatibility issue appeared with the CRM late yesterday and will require us to coordinate the resolution with two vendors. I'm sure the Marketing VP will be giving me a pleasant greeting this morning. Oh well, the vendors have been alerted and have committed to a resolution before Noon. All in all it looks like this could be a calm day. I'm REALLY glad we implemented Entire. It's great to be able to know what the day holds - BEFORE I get to the office.

Many companies are furious about the bug-ridden, pricey and over-engineered systems that they bought during the bubble era and are doing their best to switch to simple, off-the-shelf software, offered in "enterprise-resource planning" packages and the like.
