Informed Decisions

Some of my staff members have told me it would make it easier for them if information currently on two different screens could be combined on one screen. I appreciate their identifying a way to improve productivity, but need to know whether the cost of making the change can be justified against the benefit.

I bring up our system in Entire and click on Change Request. I complete the requested information and submit it. The new request now appears on my Entire dashboard with a status of Submitted. Later that day I notice that the status is now marked as In Work and see that our primary support person has taken on responsibility for responding to my request. Hmmhh, looks like this may be more involved than we thought.

Two days later Entire alerts me that I have a Change Request to review. Clicking on the item, Entire returns the complete information on my original submittal and IT's response. The change can be made, but will require somewhat more effort than we hoped due to the fact that this is a two step process that interfaces with another system. After discussing the implications with key staff members we decide the benefits of the change are worth it, so I indicate within Entire my approval of the work effort. Shortly after I receive a notice of the work's scheduled start date.

Many companies are furious about the bug-ridden, pricey and over-engineered systems that they bought during the bubble era and are doing their best to switch to simple, off-the-shelf software, offered in "enterprise-resource planning" packages and the like.
